STUDENT UPDATE
OCT 17, 2015
We had a big week at WAL. It started with Jerome Habimama – our second student to graduate college – who has finished his internship where he scored 14.5/20. He is now ready for the difficult search for a job. But because of our donors support and his hard work, he is prepared and armed with a diploma from University of Gisenyi!
Some might also remember our secondary student Joshua from earlier posts this year. He had to be taken to hospital twice to deal with malaria. He developed some pretty serious allergies so the doctors recommended that we move him to a school in a different area. It is typically challenging to move a child mid semester in Rwanda but through some helpful connections we have been allowed to do so in his special case. Yesterday he had to take an admissions test for the new school that included chemistry, math, and physics. He scored an 82%. We have now decided to begin to prepare him for an admissions test for yet another school in January. The best math and science school in the country, located in the capital of Kigali. If he is accepted he will have to move again but he is very excited about the opportunity. In the meantime he will not be boarding at his new school. Instead, he will be staying with the mother of our Director of Operations in Rwanda (Angel). We thank her for her generosity in helping us with this gifted young man. Go Joshua! And thank you for all of your continued support.
We also have some exciting news. The Annual Poker Tournament is coming together. It looks like it will be on a Saturday this year. December 5. 2pm-10PM. More details later this week. But mark your calendars.
