JAN/FEB STUDENT UPDATE

Feb 21, 2015

The new year is bringing more growth and success for We Are Limitless.

Our first student (Emmanuel Gasana) graduated from college and passed his internship “with distinction” at a bank in Gisenyi – meaning he was in the top 20% of those in the program.

We have acquired a plot of land outside of Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo that we hope one day will house the 247 women and children that our partners at CENOVI currently feed and care for every day.

We have a young student named Mary who in her first year is at the very top of her 52 person class in school.

But it has not been without its challenges…
Our leader on the ground in Rwanda, Angel Mutesi had quite a scare when her husband was shot while traveling through Kenya for work.  Thankfully after an extended hospital stay he is back home with Angel and their newborn baby.

WAL has always been more that just a charity that places orphans in boarding schools. It is a family – with each of the individuals involved in the program looking out for each other. Unforeseen things happen in a family. Good things, like the birth of a baby by one of our university student’s earlier this year, or some of the more serious illnesses that a few of our children have experienced. But, like any family, we must manage these situations.

Some of these unforeseen challenges have put a strain on our finances but with the support of donors we will find our way. Old friend and WAL supporter Brian Vander Ark (of the band The Verve Pipe) and his wife Lux did an impromptu fundraiser in Michigan to raise funds for the students in Rwanda. Next up is a night of music and celebrity bartending at Pearls on the Sunset Strip in March.
